HOME's Got Talent 2024

HOME Family, our extensive community network of migrant workers, is an integral part of the organisation. Through HOME Family, we organise many exciting events—outings and events which allow the workers to relax and rejuvenate on their precious rest day, workshops to upgrade their skills, and competitions to bring out their hidden talents.

On Sunday, 23 June 2024, we saw these hidden talents take centre stage, quite literally, during the second iteration of HOME’s Got Talent. The competition, which was kickstarted last year on International Migrants Day, invites migrant workers to audition with any talents they’d like to showcase, including (but definitely not limited to) singing, dancing, instrumental performances and acting showcases.

We also took the opportunity to commemorate International Domestic Workers Day, which fell on 16 June 2024, by appreciating the MDWs amidst the audience for their immense contributions and immeasurable sacrifices.

After a gruelling round of auditions, a total of 15 finalists put their best foot forward. Judging their prowess was a panel of distinguished judges—Pamela Wildheart, singer-songwriter and composer; Erick Guansing, singer-songwriter and vocal coach; Claire Fontaine, Bhangra and dance specialist; Dr Shahril Salleh, a social scientist; and Yudhy Widhayanto.

It wasn’t all competition either: special performers graced the stage throughout the event, featuring contestants and winners from the HOME’s Got Talent 2023, HOME Family dance troupes and a lovely rendition of Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You by a dedicated HOME Volunteer Zhen Xian.

Two winners were crowned this year for best vocal performance and best dance group. The winners clinched special prizes generously donated by HOME’s sponsors and donors, while the judges shared helpful comments that will no doubt improve the skills of all our contestants. Thank you to all our donors and venue sponsor Tzu Chi Humanistic Centre for making this event a smashing success!
