HOME Academy Graduation 2024: A Celebration of Dedication & Empowerment

Beyond championing migrant workers’ rights through casework and advocacy, HOME empowers them through skills development. Launched in 2010, HOME Academy offers courses for migrant domestic workers, including English, caregiving, cooking, baking, computer literacy, dressmaking, and more. 

On 3 November 2024, HOME Academy celebrated the achievements of 350 students from 10 diverse courses with a vibrant graduation ceremony. 

Among them, 46 Healthcare students passed the Philippine TVET Competency Assessment and Certification System (PTCACS), accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). This globally recognized certification paves the way for careers in eldercare and other industries, both in Singapore and beyond.

The ceremony marked the culmination of five months of dedication, with many students attending classes on their only weekly rest day. In addition to certificates of completion, outstanding students received special awards, such as Best in Nail Art for Cosmetology, and Best in Table Setting for Baking. 

The celebration featured food, music, dance, and performances by Nursing Aide, Healthcare Assistants and Caregiver students, and winners of the HOME Talent Show 2023. Dressmaking and Cosmetology students wowed attendees with a  fashion show, showcasing handmade ballgowns and wedding dresses, highlighting their creativity and newly-honed skills.
