JOIN US AS A VOLUNTEER!

At HOME, we believe in the power of community and the positive impact that we can create together. Over the years, we have strived to build a community of volunteers, some of whom have become family to us. As a small organisation with limited resources that conducts a wide range of programmes and activities with different groups of migrant workers, it is impossible for HOME to achieve what it has without its volunteers.

Volunteers are the bedrock of our work: they befriend, they teach, they advocate, they counsel, they heal, and they listen. Volunteers support our work in a myriad of invaluable ways, and we are always grateful for their time, effort, and dedication.

If you’re interested to join us as a volunteer, sign up below! If you have signed up for a role that currently does not have openings, we will put you on a waitlist and inform you when a volunteering opportunity is available.

How can you contribute to HOME?

Casework Volunteer (Domestic/Non-domestic)

At HOME, we have 2 help desk offices —one dedicated to migrant domestic workers and another catering to migrant workers across various sectors (i.e. construction, marine, services, etc.). At these help desk offices, casework volunteers will assist and journey with migrant workers on their cases, through liaison with employers, agents and relevant authorities. The minimum commitment is once a week. Volunteer timings are during office hours on weekdaysWe prefer volunteers who can dedicate at least six months for this role.

It’ll be helpful for volunteers to be able to speak one or more of these languages: Bengali, Burmese, Tamil or Bahasa Indonesia. Please note that casework volunteers often encounter heavy topics.

We also accept casework interns across the year. If you are interested, please send your cover letter and CV to contact@home.org.sg. We require interns to commit for a minimum of six weeks.

Shelter Volunteer

We run a shelter for distressed domestic workers where we hope to provide holistic care, through accommodation, food, and engaging activities. Currently, we have sessions where volunteers conduct lessons with our residents which include yoga lessons, english lessons, drama, creative writing, art, mental wellness etc. We are looking for volunteers who would be able to teach any of these classes.

The classes will happen on weekdays and Saturdays between 10am and 5pm. Have a class in mind you’d like to conduct? Let us know in the form!

Shelter Befriender

A befriender is an individual who provides companionship, support and friendship to others. We have shelter befrienders who are able to speak the native language of our residents (i.e. Tagalog, Bahasa Indonesia, Hindi, Tamil, Burmese). These befrienders come down to the shelter to hang out with the residents once a week and assist with small shelter tasks. The befriending sessions can happen during the day or after work hours on weekdaysWe prefer volunteers who can dedicate at least a six months for this role.

Translators

HOME provides assistance to workers in many languages. Our translators are vital in relaying important information to the workers in an effective manner. If you are able to provide written or spoken translation in the following languages, do reach out to us via the form: Bengali, Tamil, Hindi, Burmese, Tagalog, Bahasa Indonesia, Vietnamese, Mizo, Sinhalese, Khmer or Thai.

Communications Volunteer

Work alongside HOME’s Communications team to create eye-catching graphics and collaterals. If you are able to volunteer your time in any of these skills on adhoc/project-based basis, do reach out to us: graphic design (Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva), video editing (Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Capcut), illustration, photography, videography, etc.

This list of roles are non-exhaustive. Keep a look out on our social media platforms as we put out volunteer call-outs from time to time!
